Southeastern Minnesota Flyfishing

Classic flyfishing streams

The 24,000 square-mile driftless area is located in the upper Mississippi river basin. This region of southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, northwest Illinois, and southwest Wisconsin is a unuque unglaciated landscape characterized by steep hillsides, prominent bluffs, craggy river valleys and numerous coldwater springs. When glaciers retreat they leave deposits of rock, gravel, and dirt. This "driftless area" was not effected by the most recent glaciation.

Incredible trout habitat

Most streams in southeast Minnesota rise from springs and remain cool in the summer and open in the winter, allowing year round fishing.

More than 2000 miles of streams

The best way to discover the fly fishing potential of these streams is by exploring. There are miles of public water with access to a variety of fishing environments.
